2006
The first Multifocal Toric IOL was implanted by Prof Gerd U. Auffarth at the University of Heidelberg in Germany on 28th June 2006. The M-flex® T was the first lens to offer multifocal IOL Technology to patients having significant corneal astigmatism.
2007
In May 2007, Rayner was granted full FDA approval for C-flex, the first non-American company in over twenty years to be granted FDA approval for an IOL. In Vienna Austria, Prof Michael Amon implanted the first Sulcoflex® – a new IOL designed for implantation in the sulcus in pseudophakic eyes.
2008
During 2006 to 2008 Rayner had made significant improvements in plant and manufacturing machinery at the Hove site. There was a significant increase in the workforce to meet the challenges of new markets in North and South America plus established markets where there was an ever increasing world-wide demand for Rayner IOLs.
In January 2008 the Prismflex lens – a lens invented by Charles Claoue – for treatment of the final stages of age-related macular degeneration: was implanted in Pretoria, South Africa by Mr Claoué and local surgeon Dr Frik Potgieter. The lens underwent further clinical trials in 2009.
2009
In 2009, the year of the sixtieth anniversary of manufacturing the first intraocular lens, Rayner was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise on 21st April. The announcement of the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise placed Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited among the most successful businesses in the United Kingdom. The coveted award recognises sustained international trade in overseas markets and growing commercial success.
