Iris Retractor

Pupil Dilation System

The Rayner Iris Retractor elegantly enables the mechanical dilation of the pupil during surgery. Made from Nylon, with a silicone disc for adjustment, it has been specifically designed to manage small pupils during cataract extraction, especially in cases of Chronic Myosis and other pathology of constricted pupil. The Nylon hook construction reduces iris trauma and the silicone disc allows for adjustment of pupil size.

Typically, four (4) Iris Retractors are required to dilate the pupil. However, Rayner supplies a sterile packed set of six. The extra retractors are provided as insurance against mishap or difficulty when using the first one or two retractors.

The Iris Retractor is a disposable device. It is supplied sterile, ethylene oxide (EO) sterilised, to be used for one patient only.

Sterile, Easy and Ready to use

Four small bevelled incisions are made equidistant from each other and as close as possible to the limbus. The hooked end of the retractor is inserted into the incision and the hook is moved over the iris. Retracting the device dilates the pupil. When all four retractors are in place, the pupil is enlarged as a square. The dilation is maintained by the silicone discs at the incision site. The tension of the hook is adjusted by sliding the silicone disc along the shaft of the retractor.
