If you think you may be suffering from Corneal Oedema, you should ask for advice from a healthcare professional, such as your GP, Optometrist, or Pharmacist.

  • The Cornea is the transparent dome-shaped tissue which forms the front of the eye. Corneal Oedema is a condition involving an excessive hydration of the layers of tissue making up the cornea, due to an accumulation of fluid. The resulting swelling may lead to visual disturbance, sometimes including a clouding of the normally transparent cornea, which may become uncomfortable or painful. Corneal oedema may be caused by many different underlying causes, including ocular trauma, ocular surgery, ocular hypertension, glaucoma, use of contact lenses, amongst others. Choice of treatment is dependent on the underlying cause, and is best made by a suitably qualified healthcare professional.
